What an education Jo Beth had about today's doctors and their
attitudes toward women with lupus.

Lupus causes damage by the body's defenses attacking the
body--any part of the body.   The original lupus "bible", written
by a man named Dubois, is one honkin' fat book--all those
pages are needed in order to fit the host of ways the body can
be affected.  But when it comes to letting women know what to
be aware of,  Dr. Dubois does not need many words.  Here is a
summary of what he tells doctors to tell their female patients:

"Nothing! We don't want to worry their pretty little heads..."

The "justification" for this is that the disease itself can cause
psychological effects through action on the brain, through pain
and discomfort, and through stress, and we don't want to stress
these women any further, since stress aggravates the disease.

Isn't this how doctors used to treat
patients with cancer?
Haven't we moved past those days?
Or, is this another sexism thing?

it does.
