Jo Beth's rheumatologist was very angry at her.   He had
strongly advised her never to have children (the lupus "bible"
basically said that lupus moms have a 100% chance of an
unhappy, unhealthy life), and here she was, pregnant.   Now, he
told her that she had to continue with her drug treatment
through her pregnancy.

"No way," said Jo Beth.   "You don't know what Plaquenil will do
to my baby."  She told him she was stopping the drugs.

In reacting, the doctor was clearly livid.
Her previously-sympathetic, kindly, gentle diagnostic savior
had turned into a tight ball of angry resentment at the
inconceivable:  a patient refusing to follow his advice.

Where Jo Beth lets nature take its course.
Study Questions:
Why can't the doctor understand Jo
Beth's concern?
Who thinks Jo Beth should NOT have
gotten pregnant?
Okay, to be fair, this doctor truly cared about his patients, and was probably very
concerned for Jo Beth.  (But some of it still seemed like ego!)
