| Jo Beth moved Justin from his crib to one of the drawers under her bed (open, of course). When he woke, all she had to do was reach down and grab him. She was scared that her stiff fingers might make her drop him, but she learned to lift with her wrists. When this became too hard, Jo Beth kept Justin in the bed with her. Changing his diapers was really challenging. Jo Beth could no longer open or close safety pins or unpeel tapes. She learned to fasten Justin's Huggies with her teeth. It didn't help that little Justin had 24-hour colic. Each afternoon, when Jo Beth was finally able to move, she would try to rock the baby to calm his fussiness. The pain in her hip while rocking made the tears just roll down her face. Justin was happier (and he was worth it), but Jo Beth was miserable. |
