When Jo Beth lost her job, she and Joe agreed that she needed
one requiring far less concentration, and fewer hours.  Jo Beth
had once dreamed of being a teacher of handicapped children;
teaching elementary school ought to be a snap compared to her
highly-demanding data processing role.  It would also fulfill her
midlife crisis need to feel that she was "giving back".

In 2000, Jo Beth entered the Los Angeles public school system,
choosing to teach a Special Ed class in a low-income
low-performing school in East L.A., where she felt she would be
most needed.  (And where her teaching school loans would be
forgiven.)

Soon, she learned what real stress was, and her symptoms
flared with a vengeance.
