Jo Beth was staying in the classroom until 5:00 or 6:00 most
nights--sometimes later--the work never seemed to end.  She'd
arrive home only to crash to sleep sitting up, with her clothes
on.  On the nights she'd wake later on, she'd plan lessons, grade
papers, or do error analysis until she crashed again an hour or
two later.  If she instead slept straight 'til morning, she'd still
have trouble waking for work.

Jo Beth stopped cooking dinners, and didn't make it to most of
the ones her husband now prepared.  Justin and Jonah, thirteen
and twelve years old, stopped expecting to see her during the
week.  She missed the fun giggle-filled dinners they used to
share.  She missed kissing them goodnight.  She missed making
them a hot breakfast.  She even missed helping them
occasionally with their homework.

Jo Beth was filled with guilt, but even on the weekends, she
just slept and slept.
