Jo Beth used to flop down on the bed on her stomach to watch
TV, just like a kid.  She couldn't stay that way for more than a
minute or two, because of her bad back, but she still had the
habit of trying.

Now, though, as soon as she flopped down and rested her chin on
her propped bent arms, her right arm would suddenly go entirely
numb. Then, Jo Beth began waking up with the arm numb.
Then, she had trouble using the arm to wash her hair, and brush
her teeth.  Then, she began to have trouble writing.  The bank
called to verify checks, because her signature changed so much.

In her classroom of English learners, Jo Beth used the
whiteboard constantly, to draw pictures to help explain words
and concepts.  Now, she had so much trouble using her arm
when raised that the whiteboard was sometimes not an option.
