Soon, not only was she tired, anxious, depressed, and
constantly either sick or in pain, but Jo Beth's temper had
become so bad she was scared that she would lose it enough to
hit one of her students.

This Jo Beth did not want to do not only because it was wrong
(no matter how richly deserving a couple of her students
were!), but because she did not want to lose her job or wind up
in court.

Jo Beth talked with her lupus doctor about disability, which he
did not endorse, and about getting a referral to a
psychiatrist--Someone who could investigate and track her
cognitive losses, and prescribe anti-depressant medication.
Her doctor highly recommended a friend of his.
