Jo Beth's lupus doctor listened to her frustration.  Then, he
wrote her a prescription for Cymbalta.  Originally used to
combat the pains caused by the circulation problems of
diabetes, it did reduce some of Jo's smaller aches and pains,
and did help see her through the crisis, somewhat.  After a
month or two, she went off the drug.

She had looked forward to a sometimes-side-effect of Cymbalta:
weight loss.  Well, that didn't happen.  Jo Beth got her own
side effect:  In the first two weeks off the drug, she gained
fifteen pounds, ballooning from 135 to 150,  and from a size 10
to a size 12.  Talk about depression.

There was another side effect of her visit to the doctor's friend:
Sadly, after receiving his friend's assessment of Jo Beth, her
kindly lupus doctor forever changed his attitude toward her.
