Jo Beth hadn't quit soon enough.

That June and July, she was more disabled with arthritis pain
than she'd been since Justin's birth.  Her back hurt all day
long, in every position she tried.  Her left hip made her cry.
It probably didn't help that she was taking only her Behcet's
medicine, not the anti-inflammatory or the Plaquenil, because
she couldn't afford all her now-uncovered medicines.

It was impossible to even think of any job.  Jo Beth spent every
day sitting around depressed, or laying in bed depressed, when
she wasn't doing exercises to stave off the worst of the pain.

She got a new symptom, of course.  Now, when she lay down, or
even reclined, Jo Beth had trouble breathing.  So much so that,
soon, she could no longer lay down at all.

Jo Beth slept each night sitting up, wondering if, eventually,
she'd fall over in her sleep and die.

Study Questions:
Be honest.  Aren't some of you thinking
"This pathetic sad sack has no life.
Maybe she should just fall over on
purpose." ?
The gods were still screwin' with Jo Beth.

After Jo Beth learned that
the most common reason for
severe loss of breath when
laying down is
heart failure,
she requested a full set of
heart tests.
