A week later, Jo Beth still had no use of her right arm, and it
hurt like hell.  At night, she had to cushion the arm with pillows.

Only 15 short months of pain later, in October of '06, Jo Beth
was at last granted surgery by the managed care gods.  The
doctor had to cut away a HUGE amount of inflamed tissue.  He
didn't understand how the injury could have caused such severe
inflammation, but guessed it might be due to the lupus.  Or to
the Behcet's.   He assured Jo Beth she'd be fine now.

You know better, don't you?  Horrible throbbing nerve pain
developed all the way down through Jo Beth's forearm and the
back of her hand.  This was far worse than any previous pain.
Jo Beth actually screamed from it.  What had caused this?
It may have been due to the Behcet's.  Or to the lupus.  Or both.

Jo Beth suffered terribly.  Eventually, Neurontin calmed the
nerves down some, and Vicodin and Percocet calmed down Jo.
