So, back went Jo Beth to the same doctor who'd found the
low-frequency loss.  Surprise!  She's now been diagnosed with
a third disease, or syndrome:  Meniere's.

Meniere's is a build-up of fluid in the inner ear, the cochlea.
It causes balance problems, tinnitus, vertigo, nausea, and
permanent hearing damage.  Its symptoms can come and go.
That's why those other tests found nothing wrong.

The Meniere's symptoms could have been caused by
inflammation from the lupus. Or from the Behcet's.
Or both, or neither--Who the heck can keep track?
Jo Beth volunteers her own disease name:  Luhcetiere's!

Lucky, lucky, three-times-lucky  girl.

Does anyone wonder what
    disease #4 will be?
So THAT's why she kept falling!

(And couldn't ride a bicycle any
more, and got that full-head feeling,
and would suddenly feel sick and
dizzy sometimes, and got those
terrible headaches, and threw up
in front of the students!)

The doctors were right:
It WAS all in her head!
The cochlea looks like a cute snail shell.

about tinnitus?  It's
just a tiny high
